Why Is Sam Broadcaster Pro So Expensive?

Image
SAM Broadcaster in its various flavours (Pro/Studio) can cost between $299 and $699 I could understand the price tags if SAM was worth buying but it isn't its a really awful unstable piece of software. SAM Broadcaster was first developed in 1999 by some hobby broadcasters SAM still suffers from the same errors and issues it had when v1.3 came out I tried using SAM Broadcaster way back in 1999 when I was first looking for audio playback software. You couldn't add a huge folder of music into version 1.3 the software it would freeze and then crash if you tried to do that. When SAM v2.x.x came out with a redesigned GUI I thought it wasn't worth the price tag they were charging ($199) Stability isn't something you get from SAM Broadcaster Pro it crashes and burns frequently. SAM Broadcaster had so much promise but the developers behind the software became lazy. They don't seem interested in fixing the bugs or improvi

You Shouldn't Have To Keep Reinstalling Software (SAM Broadcaster Pro)

Image
One of the BIGGEST bug bears I have about SAM Broadcaster Pro is that when something goes wrong it goes BADLY WRONG. When SAM goes Boom & Bust you have to prat around uninstalling and reinstalling the software just to get it to function. Almost ready to go LIVE again SAM Broadcaster reinstalled Database rolling and adding music files & Jingles AGAIN I witnessed SAM Broadcaster do a disappering act many a time in my 10+ years of using the software. Because SAM Broadcaster Pro doesn't come with a database backup tool you have rebuild your song database and categories. Googling the error suggests a Delphi problem SAM is written in Delphi The fact it is still happening in the 2021 versions should be sounding alarm bells to anyone thinking of purchasing SAM. This little nugget was recently shared on the Spacial forums: SAM Broadcaster Pro crashed after four hours of use Just for the record the record Uptime for Radio

SAM Broadcaster Pro How Good Is It?

Image
This was a question I saw askd by someone on a Forum. Q: SAM Broadcaster Pro: How good is it? A: IMHO It's not a very good piece of software & it's not worth the $299 & $699 pricetags SAM Broadcaster can be extremely tricky for a novice to setup it gets confusing having 5 different database options on first run. Firebird is the worst of the database options and is flaky and unstable. Firebird can only hold around 50,000 tracks in its database so no good if you have a large library (100K+) of songs I installed SAM Broadcaster with the help of a software engineer We used the included Firebird server That worked well for a few days then SAM wouldn't restart I'd have to start over again reinstalling from scratch SAM fails to the point where it crashes at least once a day Its taking ALL the fun out of this We often hear users reporting crashing/activation issues with SAM Broadcaster often taking stations off air for a few

I've Tried Lots of Radio Software

Image
In my 20+ years of being into Internetradio I have tried all sorts of different radio automation software packages. I wish I could remember the name of half of the different pieces of software but here's a few... DRS 2006, SAM Broadcaster, Jazler, Raduga, Zararadio, Winamp (Plus Others) When my interest piqued for Internet radio in 1999 I tested software that was available at the time. I started out as listener at first and discovered Winamp for listening to Shoutcast stations. It was 2001 before I bought my first PC and I set out to discover what Internet radio was all about. One of the Oldies stations I'd discovered was asking for DJ's so I applied and got a weekly 3 hour show. The software I had to use was SAM Broadcaster and that went wrong so often I lost my position on the station. Wether that be encoders buffering or the program freezing the software never worked as it should. I was lucky to get any uptime with SAM Broadcaster

XML Files Cause SAM Broadcaster To Crash

Image
As the title of the blog post would suggest SAM Broadcaster crashes when .XML files get corrupted. It can be frustrating when SAM goes wrong for no apparent reason. Sounds like a broken SAMBC.core.xml file Try uninstalling and reinstalling SAM Broadcaster Although you will lose all of your program settings SAM Broadcaster Pro relies on .xml files for its operation it only takes one of those files to become corrupt and SAM does a disappearing act How the XML files become corrupt in SAM Broadcaster is anyones GUESS! RadioDJ also relies on .xml files for backend & plugin functions & I've NEVER had RadioDJ crash like SAM. Trying to get SAM Broadcaster to work but it crashes within 24 hours FACT: RadioDJ performs 100 times better than SAM Broadcaster Pro Soundcards and Disc drives were the main culprits wh

Does Anyone Still Buy SAM Broadcaster Pro?

Image
I'm not noticing anywhere near the amount of gripes about SAM Broadcaster on social media that I used to see 5/6 years ago. The forums don't seem to be attracting as many complaints that they once did either. Although they've made the forums READ ONLY. Download figures for RadioDJ would suggest that not many people are paying Spacial Audio for software now. It was 2010 when I switched from SAM Broadcaster to RadioDJ I switched because I was sick of SAMBC not performing as it should & it crashed regularly and required reinstalling after every crash. I have NEVER had a major issue with RadioDJ Or any standalone encoders I've streamed with since 2010 RadioDJ handles everything I throw at it and is as Stable & Reliable and doesn't crash like SAM Broadcaster Pro If anything has taken RadioDJ off air it was computer hardware related. Disc Drives FAILING

SAM Broadcaster Cuts Off The End Of Jingles

Image
This is yet another issue within SAM Broadcaster Pro I could never get a sensible answer for. As hard as I tried I could never get SAM to play jingles or station ID's properly it would always CHOP the end off. This was a question asked recently on the SAM Broadcaster Forums. Can anyone help with how to prevent radio spots, Station IDs, Jingles, Promos (Voice Ads) from being cut-off at the end? Right now the ones I have get CHOPPED of at the end before they COMPLETE It also does it with songs SAM Broadcaster Pro could NEVER crossfade properly. I am still fighting with this I have a problem with the tracks snipping on the end a fraction before the track is finished I have tried every combination I can find regarding gap killers and even tried various settings on crossfading in case that was the issue You always ended up with a CAR CRASH of a crossfade between tracks in SAM. I regularly saw people asking on the SAM forums a

SAM Broadcaster Freezes While Adding Music?

Image
I first used SAM Broadcaster way back when v1.3 came out in 1999. One thing that bugged me about Streaming Audio Manager is that it always FROZE while adding music into the software. Adding files is a very time consuming process and SAM freezes for a while It won't transition to the next song until the folder scan is done Back in v1.3 If I tried adding a large folder of music to the software it would cause the program to crash. It was exactly the same with versions SAM Broadcaster 2/3/4 The reason SAM freezes is down to the fact that the software suffers from bad MEMORY LEAKS! Plus the software is well known for using lots of the computers resources & CPU. SADLY 20+ years later the same thing is still happening in Spacial Audio's SAM Broadcaster software. Saw this on Social media recently. I'm making headway adding music & jingles to SAM but it keeps freezing The Fact

Sam Broadcaster Crossfade Problems

Image
As hard as I tried I could never get SAM Broadcaster to transition smoothly between songs. I'd either end up with a few seconds of dead air or a complete car crash of a crossfade. All my files were ripped properly and volume levelled so that wasn't the issue. It happened with every version of the software from v2.7.9 through to the newer versions. So it's not just a problem confined to one version of SAM Broadcaster but every single version of it. The default settings would cut the end of songs off & jingles and station ID's would never fade/play properly. I even tried settings suggested by Festerhead on the SAM Broadcaster forums but that only made the issue worse. We think Spacial Audio ripped off a Winamp DSP plugin called SQR Crossfade to make the fadeout feature in SAM. I need a little help with cross-fading when there is a voice-track or Station ID SAM Broadcaster cuts off the last second of the track Where would I deal with that? Can

SAM Broadcaster Players Are Stuck (Unable To Apply Settings Error)

Image
I've seen SAM Broadcaster go wrong on the flip of a coin and without warning in my years using it. A user recently posted on the forums with issues they were having on their computer. I am getting the Players Are Stuck problem with an error Unable to apply settings. Error: [Main] Unable to create DirectSound object Code: $88780078 Make sure that the sound card is not being used by another application. The user omitted which version of SAM Broadcaster this was happening with and has stated nothing else is using the soundcard. I have seen the players get stuck in SAM many a time, Which then usually meant a REINSTALL from scratch. It gets tiring when SAM goes wrong and stops working for no apparent reason. This is a typical error message within Windows Error logs from when SAM goes TITS UP! Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: SAMBC.exe Application Version: 1.0.0.0 Application Timestamp: 2a425e19 Fault Module Name: unknown Fault Module

Its Not Just Sam Broadcaster That Crashes (Sam Party DJ)

Image
As the topic of the post suggests its not just SAM Broadcaster Pro/Studio that suffers with stability problems. Other Spacial Audio software suffers from the same problem especially SAM DJ (Formerly SAM Party DJ) These were recent searches that came through on Google Analytics SAM DJ shutting down after 15 minutes on Windows 10. SAM Party DJ crashing on Windows 10 Unable to pick any track SAM Party DJ. Windows 10 drags and skips Spacial Audio SAM Party DJ. Then there was also this post recently elsewhere on the Internet. I bought SAM DJ today and it keeps crashing after about 15 minutes. Can anyone tell me why? I tried SAM Party DJ a few years back & yes it was as annoying as SAM Broadcaster it was never reliable enough to run a party night with. SAM DJ is really only a stripped down version of SAM Broadcaster (Minus Encoders and PAL scripts) when all is said and done and there are also lots of stability problems with that piece of software. I bought SAM

I Wish There Was An Alternative To Sam Broadcaster

Image
Recently saw someone post this statement on Social Media: I genuinely wish there was an alternative to SAM Broadcaster on the market They can't have searched otherwise they would know there is a 100% FREE alternative that works better than SAM Broadcaster I cannot stress enough just how Amazing, Reliable and Stable RadioDJ Free Radio Automation is. I've thrown everything at RadioDJ since 2010 and it's worked everytime I've gone to play music. Even the BETA versions 1.6.x.x performed as they should with very few issues. RadioDJ loads rotations/events/playlists and It works for days/weeks without needing to keep an eye on it. I just wish SAM Broadcaster Pro in all it's various guises had been this reliable but alas it never was. SAM would crash/freeze when you least expected it or wanted it to. Radio DJ has NEVER let ME down since I started using the software way back in 2010. I've been able to do live shows and record stuff without

If Only RadioDJ Had Been Around In 2002

Image
I've been into Internet radio and streaming for years now. It started out with me tuning into a LIVE365 Station in 1999. In that time I've spent a lot of time using and testing various radio automation solutions. Although my interest in Internet radio had started in 1999 it was 2002 before I had a Broadband connection. Radio automation software offerings back in 2002 were PANTS. You didn't have a great deal of choice. I tried Winamp with DSP plugins to try and stream but I ended up with large gaps of silence between songs so that wasn't ideal. Winamp would casually crash when you least wanted it to. An unstable DSP Plugin was usually to blame for that. Badly written Plugins were common back in Winamp's heyday! A lot of the DSP and General plugins from the Winamp website either wouldn't work or they would cause Winamp to freeze. You also had to change playlists manually and
