Is There A Way to Get Metadata From SAM Cast?

Image
A user on the RadioDJ forums was looking to get the now playing information into SAM Cast so his listeners knew what he was playing. I tried and tried and failed in the past to get now playing metadata into the streams from SAMCast formerly Simplecast. There are users who claim to have title streaming working but when I follow their instructions it still doesn't want to work. This was a post by a user on the Spacial Audio Forums Having paid for Sam Cast I was determined to make title streaming work. I now realise that it won't. I tried with the File Poller program that comes with SAM Cast and It still didn't read the metadata from a .txt file The user on the forums stated that he's tried everything he can think of including trying to use Serial Ports. SamCast title encoding won't work. I tried installing it on the same PC as RadioDJ as well as a serial cable from the Radio DJ PC to the SamCast PC. The stand alone encoders I promote read t

Running RadioDJ On Linux/Wine?

Image
This is a common question we've seen on the RadioDJ forums. Q: Will RadioDJ free radio automation software run under .wine on Linux? A: Not at present and yes you can quote me on that! Don't believe us then feel free to test the theory out at your own risk! If you manage to get .NET installed there is no guarantee RadioDJ will work properly on .wine RadioDJ v2.x.x requires .NET 3.5 and 4.8 Even IF the database setup tool runs and you get RadioDJ fired up the program may not function and will constantly throw up errors at you. This is what happened last time I tried running RadioDJ under .wine I used to test when I saw an update for .wine or MONO and got frustrated at the same error messages everytime. I tested again recently and couldn't even get Wine/Winetricks to install correctly on an 64bit Ubuntu Studio. Users claim to have RadioDJ running on Wine but when you ask those users HOW they did it they never come back to explain the st

Its Really Easy To Sort Your Music Library With RadioDJ

Image
After 7 and a half years with the same RadioDJ database I've decided to rebuild my song categories and song library from Scratch. My SQL database hasn't gone wrong or crashed its just I felt like doing a rebuild. I've spent a lot of time staring at tracks manager over the past couple of days. Knowing the categories my music was previously catalogued under has made life a lot easier. You can setup and create multiple subcategories and genres. Top Tip: Whenever you make a change to any of your songs you need to take a backup this will preserve your changes. This is where RadioDJ excels compared to other expensive software. Other software doesn't come with a way to backup your database data. Even IF you manage to get your database backed up in other software you may just find it doesn't backup all your table data. Whereas the RadioDJ Datbase setup tool backs up your entire database and all your table data.

You Shouldn't Have To Keep Reinstalling Software (SAM Broadcaster Pro)

Image
One of the BIGGEST bug bears I have about SAM Broadcaster Pro is that when something goes wrong its goes BADLY WRONG. When SAM goes Boom & Bust you have to prat around uninstalling and reinstalling the software just to get it to function. Almost ready to go LIVE again SAM Broadcaster reinstalled Database rolling and adding music files & Jingles again. Because SAM Broadcaster Pro doesn't come with a database backup tool you have rebuild your song database and categories. I witnessed SAM Broadcaster do a disappering act many a time in my 10+ years of using the software. The fact it is still happening in the 2021 versions should be sounding alarm bells to anyone thinking of purchasing SAM. SAM has hardly changed since 2002 give or take a few GUI changes it hasn't seen a great deal of development in recent years. You DO NOT need to put up with SAM Broadcaster crapping out on you time after time.

Fat Barry At The Father Red Cap (Camberwell SE5)

Image
In the early 1990s I wanted to escape my home town Scunthorpe for my own personal safety. It wasn't easy growing up Gay in a very Homophobic backwards town. I wrote letters from Jobclub to bars in London listed in Gay Times asking if they had any jobs. In the end I got 3 replies: First one was from a bar in the West End saying they had no jobs but wished me well. Second pub had a Job as long as I could start before the beginning of August but had no accomodation. Third letter was a from a Mr Barry Bainbridge at the Father RedCap 319 Camberwell Road SE5 saying they had accomodation available. So I took the room at the Father Redcap and the Job at the other pub in North London I moved into a room on the top floor (The top window on the corner) and paid £25 p/w for a box room with no lockable door. (Thats London for you) The Father Redcap was a rather lively Gay pub. With regular cabaret acts and a

The User interface Gives Me A Headache (SAM Broadcaster Pro)

Image
A user recently put in a feature request on the SAM Broadcaster Forums. I'm using Sam Broadcaster 2021 and I am getting very tired eyes from the white background of the interface. I Would appreciate a DARK MODE. The interface of SAM Broadcaster Pro has always been hard on the eyes. I couldn't stare at the Interface for long periods myself without getting a headache. This where RadioDJ is better because in the 2.x.x. versions you can change the colours of the Interface. This is a theme I came up with a dark barkground with Geen and Red I don't find myself getting eye strain and can look at the RadioDJ interface for longer than I ever could SAM. The user complaining about eye strain won't be getting a dark skin for SAM Broadcaster anytime soon. Its RARE Spacial Audio introduce new features into their software. They DON'T listen to their user base.

What's The Point In a Public Shoutcast Server?

Image
I've recently set one of my computers up as the entertainment PC running RadioDJ 24/7 on AutoDJ. I decided to setup a Private Shoutcast Server so I can access my music when I'm out. I've made my server private and that got me thinking: What is the point is a Public Shoutcast Server? You need an Authhash these days to get your Shoutcast 2.x.x server listed publicly on the Shoutcast YP Thats if you can find where to generate a Authhash it wouldn't generate one for me and it sent me to a webpage that no longer exists. Shoutcast servers prior to v2.5.5 wll not list on the Shoutcast YP website. Even when you get your Authhash your station doesn't always list on the SC YP sometimes the server throws error messages at you. Most of the stations listed publicly on the Shoutcast directory don't seem to play in my browser they play fine if I download a .pls file. I used to list my station on the Shoutcast

Promise Of A New Winamp?

Image
I was alerted to fact the Winamp website had changed this week. Seems they've finally decided to do something with Winamp after a near on 8 year Hiatus. You can sign up to be a beta tester from the Winamp Website There been lots of discussion on the Winamp Forums about this news. I think personally the Good Ship Winamp sailed years ago. Even if they do upgrade Winamp I reckon its only going to be a shadow of its former self. they talk about a new version in the works when as far as other users can tell theres no one taking up developer jobs at Winamp/Shoutcast It will be 8 years on the 20th Dec since AOL sut down Winamp and Shoutcast. It will also be 8 Years in January since Radionomy (Now Shoutcast) bought the rights to the software from AOL. I will try the new Winamp when it comes out but I doubt it will be a player I'll use as I now use RadioDJ.

Final Player 2022

Image
I was recently made aware of this piece of music software called Final Player 2022 Before I go any further this is NOT a hatchet job I'm writing as to how I found things while trying to use the software. I went to the website and downloaded a zip folder extracted the .exe Went to Install it to find the installer was only in DUTCH. It took me a few minutes to find where I could change the language and even after changing it the buttons were still in Dutch. I selected a folder of music dragged and dropped it & I struggled to get a playlist to generate plus I can't fathom out how you turn on AutoDJ. I cannot work out out how you Auto add songs to the playlist at the moment Final Player keeps constantly looping Enola Gay. The software keeps going into (Not Responding) mode on Windows 10 whenever I try to click a button to do something. I had to use task manager to exit the software on more than one try of opening the software. A

Cash Strapped & Potless?

Image
I know from watching several broadcasting websites over the past 10 years that a LOT of people into Internet radio don't have endless pots of cash to spend on automation software or upgrades. Radio software is expensive and 9 times out of 10 users gets taken for a ride by the software company they have just purchased software from. They buy said expensive software then they find the support is horrible and they never get a sensible reply. Its among one of the reasons I ditched Spacial Audio and their lacklustre software. I could never get a sensible answer on the Forums or got called rude names by one of the moderators. This is where software such as RadioDJ is miles better than a lot of the paid for automation programs. For starters RadioDJ is 100% FREE and has a great support network on the RadioDJ Community Forums No activations – No contracts - No keys – No hidden fees – No catches - No gimmicks How To

Zeno Media Charging Music Stations

Image
Its recently come to my attention that ZENO FM the streaming service has now started charging Music based radio stations at $9.99 a MONTH. Now YOU DON'T get to see the warning about being charged until you've started the signup process. I guess music based stations already using ZenoFM will get a warning at some point that they will have to pay. It was only a matter of time I guess, they've kept the streaming free for quite sometime now. Royalties are the biggest bane of most Internet radio stations owners lives especially for American stations. Most of the free streaming services only allow you to stream at 32Kbps. Whereas there was/is no bitrate capping with ZenoFM. I've used Zeno Media and I've now logged out and won't use the service again if they're now charging MUSIC stations to stream. I can't afford to run a full time station. The c

Its Really Easy To Stream Audio From Your Computer

Image
As the title of the post suggests it need not be a faff when you want to stream audio on the Internet. I know it can seem daunting setting up an Streaming Encoder for the first time. Its not difficult to setup a streaming encoder all you is a Shoutcast or Icecast server to stream your Audio to. The hardest part is configuring the soundcard and encoder options. Once thats done the world really is your Oyster. I currently use Sound Empire Caster to stream my audio and its rare to have an issue. I've certainly not noticed any buffering. I know other users of Sound Empire Caster have only good things to say about it. Sound Empire Caster 1.1.5 Sound Empire Caster 1.1.6 Sound Empire Caster 1.2.7 Sound Empire Caster 1.2.8 How To Configure An Encoder After configuring the encoder you then need to configure the audio from whichever streaming media you want to broadcast. What Do Spammers Hope To Achieve?

Image
I hate Spam in all its forms & I hate spammers when they send banal email over and over. I've hated Spam emails ever since getting a Virus in 2002 I wasn't as Computer savvy back then. I taught myself all about how to handle viruses and spam. Its rare I get Spam & Viruses these days. Then theres the Forum Spammers who are a different Breed altogether. What is it Spammers hope to achieve when they deface a Forum? Lord knows but its a never ending task trying to stop them. Its rare for me to miss a spammer on the Forum I moderate, I check at least 4 times a day to weed out the spammers trying to get through. Q: Who is paying these spammers to disrupt normal Forum functions? I guess that is the $64,000 question. A good managed forum shouldn't let spammers get through but theres always that odd time where moderators don't catch Spam in time. Thank goodness for the Stop Forum Spam service that

11 Years & Still Going Strong

Image
I discovered RadioDJ in 2010 and its been something of a love affair ever since I downloaded and installed the software. After I installed RadioDJ for the first time I could tell it was a quailty product with a bright future. I champion RadioDJ because Its Piece of Software that I believe in. RadioDJ is a piece of software that performs amazingly well it automates music/jingles/promos without crashing. I was able to do live shows back when I was streaming with confidence because I TRUSTED RadioDJ from the start. I recently installed an old version of RadioDJ on my Windows 10 PC (v1.6.0) and its performing as it did when I first used it 10 years ago, Even 1.6.0 sounds and performs like the newer versions even if it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the newer 2.x.x. versions. I've never had RadioDJ crash I cannot say that about other radio automation software I've had the MISFORTUNE to use.

Internet Radio Listeners Can Be So FICKLE

Image
When it comes to Internet radio the hardest thing a radio station owner can do is try and attract listeners to their stream. I found in the past when I was streaming that most listeners only tended to tune in for 1 maybe 2 songs. I would play 2 classic 80s songs together and then I'd lose a few listeners. Yet if those listeners heard those two songs played together on mainstream 80s radio those people would think the DJ was amazing. Sadly it seems despite Internetradio station owners promoting their stations people only want to hear what they want to HEAR. Internet radio is losing out big style to Streaming services such as Spotify Spotify wants to KILL Radio as we know it! Yes its nice when you do get listeners sticking around but you have to do a lot of hard work to keep those listeners. But then again Its always been the LOVE OF MUSIC (fo

Shafted By Shoutcast (Formerly Radionomy)

Image
When Radionomy bought Shoutcast with Winamp in 2014 I had hoped it would be a bright new dawn for Internet radio broadcasters. Seems It wasn't a new dawn it was a new NIGHTMARE for some Internet broadcasters. How they've handled things has shown no end of contempt to the user base. Shoutcast has been mismanaged since Radionomy paid $5M to AOL (A O HELL) I regularly see people complaining that their authhash isn't working or their Shoutcast streams keep going down. I have no answers from anyone. I simply canceled my subscription with them. I find their attitude really unprofessional. There's a whole thread on the Shoutcast Forums from users stating Targetspot haven't paid them for carrying their adverts on their stream(s) Did anybody get payments this month? I had doubts when Radionomy started their Shoutcast hosting service as to wether or not the service would be profitable

You Can't Kiss Your Boyfriend In Here

Image
I've suffered with lots and lots of Homophobia in my years of being OUT as a Gay Man. You have to understand that my Hometown SCUNTHORPE IS VERY HOMOPHOBIC. Realising you're Gay at an early age in a Homophobic town can make life quite difficult. I was OUTED by a DJ when I was 14 at an under 18's disco. He had no idea how much GRIEF that caused me afterwards! The "Gay Boy" comments never went away I was still experiencing homophobic insults in my 30's from Idiots from my past. Seems my Sexuality ruined alot of childhood friendships people stopped talking to me. Jason who was supposed to have been my best friend at Nursery/Infants/Junior School flipped out when he became aware of my sexuality. He was the last person I'd expected Homophobia/Abuse from. In One of the first Homophobic attacks I experienced Aged 14 I had my nose broken by a punch from behind as I was wa

Realtek HD Audio Drivers

Image
Currently sat here trying to stop my computer from screwing my audio output up. I went to fire up Audacity to record something and the second Audacity started the audio suddenly went garbled and sounded awful. Which in turn made me have to restart the computer. After much hair pulling and head scratching I think I've found the culprit. Its the Realtek HD Audio drivers they don't like my computer for some reason. MEH! So I've uninstalled the Realtek drivers and am solely using just the Windows sound drivers. Reaktek soundcards always were awful way back in the days of Windows XP They never gave me great Audio performance. I'm changing computers over for the 32GB machine thats got an Intel soundcard and thats not gone wrong on me since I bought the computer. I wish the developers at Realtek would get their shit together and give us proper functioning drivers on Windows 10. I rely on my soun

If Only RadioDJ Had Been Around In 2002

Image
I've been into Internet radio and streaming for eons now. It started out with me tuning into a LIVE365 Station way back in 1999. In that time I've spent a lot of time using and testing various radio automation solutions. Althought my interest in Internet radio had started in 1999 it was 2002 before I had a connection to be able to stream. Radio automation software offerings back in 2002 were PANTS. You didn't have a great deal of choice. I tried Winamp with DSP plugins to try and stream but I ended up with large gaps of silence between songs so that wasn't ideal. Winamp would casually crash when you least wanted it to. An unstable Cross Fading plugin was to blame for the most part. Badly written Plugins were common back in Winamp's heyday!. A lot of the DSP and General plugins from the Winamp website either wouldn't work or they would cause Winamp to freeze. Then
