8 Reasons To Not Use SAM Broadcaster Pro

Image
I can think of a few reasons WHY you might want to choose an alternative to SAM Broadcaster Pro or Studio 1) Lousy Customer Support: When SAM Broadcaster goes wrong (and it will) don't expect to get much help from Spacial Audio: Even the forums and social media accounts were staffed by people who didnt really care about the software. People have even taken to Social media to vent their frustrations at not getting much in the way of support. @Spacial Audio are the worst software company I have EVER come across I really feel cheated because I never expected @Spacial Audio to be so Deceptive I don't have to make Spacial Audio look Incompetent they manage to do that all by themselves Spacial Audio's parent company must be so Proud of the way they operate? IMHO: Triton Digital need to put Spacial Audio out of business. Update March 2023: Spacial Audio have made the Support forums a READ ONLY resource. Limiting your opti

Is There A Way to Get Metadata From SAM Cast?

Image
A user on a forum was looking to get the now playing information into SAM Cast so his listeners knew what he was playing. I tried and tried and failed in the past to get now playing metadata into the streams from SAMCast formerly Simplecast. There are users who claim to have title streaming working but when I follow their instructions it still doesn't want to work. This was a post by a user on the Spacial Audio Forums Having paid for Sam Cast I was determined to make title streaming work I now realise that it won't The File Poller application still didn't read or update metadata from a file The user on the forums stated that he's tried everything he can think of including trying to use Serial Ports. SamCast title encoding won't work. I tried installing it on the same PC as RadioDJ as well as a serial cable from the Radio DJ PC to the SamCast PC The stand alone encoders I promote read text files to stream the now playing metadata from soft

Internet Radio Listeners Can Be So FICKLE

Image
When it comes to Internet radio the hardest thing a radio station owner can do is try and attract listeners to their stream. I found in the past when I was streaming that most listeners only tended to tune in for 1 maybe 2 songs. I would play 2 Classic 80s songs together and then I'd lose a few listeners If those listeners heard those two songs played together on mainstream 80s radio those people would think the DJ was amazing. There is no DJ on most mainstream radio stations most of its Voice tracked, Computerised & Networked from remote Studios. Sadly it seems despite Internetradio station owners promoting their stations people only want to hear what they want to HEAR. Internet radio is losing out big style to Streaming services such as Spotify Spotify wants to KILL Internet Radio as we know it! Yes its nice when you do get listeners sticking around bu

Totally Free Radio DJ Music Automation Software

Image
This was a search that showed up in Google Analytics on my old WP website. Totally Free Radio DJ Music Automation Software So you want some totally FREE radio playout software? Well step this way The main piece of radio automation software I recommend is RadioDJ RadioDJ has been developed since 2009 and has been TOTALLY FREE since it was first released. Radio DJ is free is because the author wanted to help broadcasters get their station on air without spending $$$ on software. RadioDJ has since gone on to be used by professional (AM/FM) radio stations who use it for their stations music output. Despite what other radio automation software developers might say RadioDJ doesn't need marketing gimmicks the software speaks for itself One user reported an amazing uptime with RadioDJ they had v1.8.2 running for 4 years on a laptop. Radio DJ is easy enough to setup & Ideally you should be up and running in under an hour.

How To: Connect RadioDJ to Shoutcast or Icecast

Image
To connect RadioDJ to Shoutcast or Icecast you need a stand alone encoder. The MYTH that a stand alone encoder is harder to use is put out by developers who include built in encoders in their software 1) Install the standalone encoder of your choice. 2) Configure the stand alone encoder software to take the audio from your soundcard. TIP: If you don't have a physical sound card then you can use Virtual Audio Cables 3) Configure Your encoder(s) to connect to Shoutcast or Icecast. 4) Connect to the server and et voila you should have audio streaming from RadioDJ to your audio server. 5) RadioDJ outputs now playing info to a text file (e.g: C:\NowPlaying.txt) you can connect most stand alone encoders to the text file. Its really NOT difficult to stream on the Internet with modern technology Free Shoutcast and Icecast services can be found by searching the Internet.

You Have A Choice Of Radio Automation Software

Image
When it comes to Internet radio automation software you have a choice... Do you pay out hundreds of $$$ for radio playout software or do you download a program for free? Personally I'd rather use something for FREE leaves more money to spend on studio equipment and streaming. I know from using various Forums over the years that hobby broadcasters don't always have $$$ to spend on stuff for their station. Everytime I test paid automation solutions I come to the conclusion that they don't perform that well when up against RadioDJ. DEMO versions of some radio software offerings have usage restrictions or time limits With those restrictions you can't test the software to its FULL POTENTIAL RadioDJ doesn't have trial periods, reg keys or online activations I'd rather help save someone from the hell that is a paid for product with very little in the way of support, The case in point being SAM Broadcaster People pay

The Best Free Radio DJ Software? (RadioDJ)

Image
Recently saw someone search for The Best Free Radio DJ Software when I looked at the stats on Google Analytics. By now they'll hopefully be using the best free music automation program of them all. RadioDJ is the best radio playout software IMHO Built around the .NET framework (at least 3.5 & 4.6.1) and a MySQL database its pretty reliable and stable. Q: Is RadioDJ really free? A: Yes its 100% free for use by any DJ or radio station, anywhere in the world. Despite claims by other software developers RadioDJ is a great starting point to start your own Internet radio station. RadioDJ doesn't rely on massive amounts of CPU it can run on a system with as little as 1GB RAM and least 1000 MHz CPU. Your system should have more power and processing, You can pick up computers with decent specifications cheaply these days. A new user of the software recently said this about RadioDJ. I'm new to RadioDJ it is bett

Setting Up An Encoder (Streaming Media)

Image
A user on the RadioDJ forums was asking for help setting up his encoder. Most encoding software tends to be similar to setup and run. Whether that be a stand alone encoder or a built in one. Its not difficult setting up an encoder. Most of the encoding programs rely on several bits of information in order for you to connect to Shoutcast or Icecast. Server or IP address : Tends to be the address your streaming provider emailed you it will look something like this. e.g: 184.154.145.114 or fred.myshoutcastprovider.com (Without the http:// part) Server Port : This will be the port number you or your provider set for you when you setup or signed up for the server. e.g: 8015 Server Type : You have different options when it comes to streaming this will usually be Shoutcast, Shoutcast v2 or Icecastv2 If you need to stream to another service such as Live365 You may want to ask their support team to help you with any connection issues Encoder Password : This will be

Sound Empire Caster Stable

Image
I've tested lots of encoding software in all the years I've been into Internetradio. Oddcast, Edcast, Altacast, MB Recaster, BUTT, SAM Cast (Simplecast) & Various Winamp DSP Encoders. Most encoding software has been OK but a couple of the programs I tried to stream with caused buffering on my stream(s) The Shoutcast DSP plugin for Winamp was one of the worst encoders I tried my stream would often cut out and buffer The SAM DSP/Simplecast encoders would also buffer and cut out. SAM Cast can't handle title streaming so if you use that your listeners wouldn't know what you were playing on your stream. The encoding software DSP solutions I was trying and testing 18 years ago weren't much KOP. Fast forward 18 years and I think I've found the most stable piece of encoding software ever Sound Empire Caster I've been testing it for quite some time now and I haven't had to deal with any buf

Encoding Software (Standalone Encoders)

Image
To get your stream online its easier if you use a standalone encoding solution Its not difficult to use a stand alone encoder. You configure it the same as a built in one. The MYTH that a standalone encoder is harder to use is put out by software developers who include built in encoders in their software A Standalone encoder picks up the audio from Stereo Mix or Virtual Audio Cable. I've yet to see built in encoders function properly in some software, I frequently encountered lots of buffering messages. Using stand alone encoding means RadioDJ can be left to do what its does best AUTOMATING your songs and jingles. I've used the standalone encoding method since I discovered RadioDJ in 2010 Standalone Encoders are more reliable I've NOT had an issue with Stand Alone encoding software while streaming. Here are just some of the free Internet radio streaming encoders available. 1) Sound Empire Caster ($0.00)
