A Fool And Their Money Are Soon Parted!

Image
Most people know I dislike a program called SAM Broadcaster Pro made by Spacial Audio Solutions LLC I gave SAM Broadcaster all the chances in the world over a good 12 year period. SAM Broadcaster went wrong on different computers it wasn't just confined to One computer. Please let me explain a little as to why I hate that piece of software so much: I discovered Internetradio in 1999 when I first started using the Internet Although It was 2002 before I got the chance to DJ online Early versions of Streaming Audio Manager v1.3 required Winamp as a backend player and it was absolute pants. SAM Broadcaster wasn't great when you went to add a music folder It would crash & lockup before it imported all of the songs. In 2002 one of the stations I listened to was advertising for DJ's so I signed up & I ended up with a regular weekly radio show. They supplied SAM Broadcaster v2.7.9 & the keys to the software which I presumed

You Shouldn't Have To Keep Reinstalling Software (SAM Broadcaster Pro)

Image
One of the BIGGEST bug bears I have about SAM Broadcaster Pro is that when something goes wrong it goes BADLY WRONG. When SAM goes Boom & Bust you have to prat around uninstalling and reinstalling the software just to get it to function. Almost ready to go LIVE again SAM Broadcaster reinstalled Database rolling and adding music files & Jingles AGAIN I witnessed SAM Broadcaster do a disappering act many a time in my 10+ years of using the software. Because SAM Broadcaster Pro doesn't come with a database backup tool you have rebuild your song database and categories. Googling the error suggests a Delphi problem SAM is written in Delphi The fact it is still happening in the 2021 versions should be sounding alarm bells to anyone thinking of purchasing SAM. This little nugget was recently shared on the Spacial forums: SAM Broadcaster Pro crashed after four hours of use Just for the record the record Uptime for Radio

SAM Broadcaster Won’t Open After Reboot

Image
I recently saw a post on the Spacial Audio SAM Broadcaster Forums SAM Broadcaster Pro won't open after reboot! When I restart my computer SAM Broadcaster won’t open SAM Broadcaster going wrong is nothing new its been an issue for over 20 years. In the past I've had to uninstall and reinstall SAM Broadcaster after the program went wrong. What causes SAM Broadcaster and it’s program files/database structure to become corrupted during a reboot of the computer is anyone’s guess. This has happened on different operating systems from XP to Windows 10 Another SAM user said it turned out to be an issue with the core or GUI XML being corrupted by an improper shutdown of the software. The SAM Broadcaster database tables became corrupted after a reboot of the computer which required a reinstall of the software. I was having to reinstall SAM Broadcaster at least once a Week The problem was even worse if your PC was s

Memory Leaks Are An Inherent Problem SAM Broadcaster Pro

Image
As the title of the post SAM Broadcaster Pro suffers with Memory Leaks. More so If you are running PAL = Playlist Automation Language Scripts. Memory Leaks are an inherent problem of how the PAL engine is designed If you design bad PAL scripts you get memory leaks It's easier to design a bad PAL script than to design a good one It's not like Memory Leaks were an unavoidable problem They've had years to get the code in SAM Broadcaster Pro BUG FREE give or take a few GUI changes its the same as it was 20 years ago. When I first tried running PAL scripts in 2002 SAM would regularly do a disappearing act or it would stutter and FREEZE. This is a from a user who is having issues with the latest 2021 version. [CORE] Unhandled exception (Out of memory while expanding memory stream) I stopped some of the scripts and the problem still occurred The memory leak PAL Script crashed SAM Broadcaster The PAL Scripting inter

Winamp Can't Handle BIG Music Collections?

Image
Someone recently Tweeted about issues they were having with Winamp The Tweet was about Winamp not being able to handle 2TB worth of songs being loaded into it. My library is now is over 2TB and Winamp kinda chugged with it Winamp takes a long while to load (5+ min) & occasionally it crashes Its not the first time I've heard of people having issues with the amount of files they were attempting to import into Winamp I feel this users frustration I had various issues trying to use Winamp & recently a Windows 10 update broke it so I uninstalled it. Winamp hasn't seen any development since 2013 and v5.666 can be buggy as hell on Windows 10 As for the 5.8 leaked BETA that was even worse I couldn't get it working at all. Yes Winamp was a thing 20+ years ago but these days there is better and more robust software out there for playing music with. Reasons to Use RadioDJ:

SAM Broadcaster Freezes While Adding Music?

Image
I first used SAM Broadcaster way back when v1.3 came out in 1999. One thing that bugged me about Streaming Audio Manager is that it always FROZE while adding music into the software. Adding files is a very time consuming process and SAM freezes for a while It won't transition to the next song until the folder scan is done Back in v1.3 If I tried adding a large folder of music to the software it would cause the program to crash. It was exactly the same with versions SAM Broadcaster 2/3/4 The reason SAM freezes is down to the fact that the software suffers from bad MEMORY LEAKS! Plus the software is well known for using lots of the computers resources & CPU. SADLY 20+ years later the same thing is still happening in Spacial Audio's SAM Broadcaster software. Saw this on Social media recently. I'm making headway adding music & jingles to SAM but it keeps freezing The Fact

I've Had To Shut My Radio Station Down (Sam Broadcaster Pro)

Image
I looked at the Spacial Audio's social media feeds recently and couldn't help but notice an angry user venting about issues with SAM Broadcaster I have SAM Broadcaster Pro on two laptops neither will work because of constant crashing issues I cannot DJ because your software keeps letting me down I have had to shut my radio station down I can sympathise with the user venting his frustrations. I used SAM Broadcaster for over 10 years and had nothing but headaches with constant crashing/buffering & freezing issues. When SAM Broadcaster Pro crashed it would take the database with it. As there is no way to backup or restore the database in SAM Broadcaster you have to prat around reinstalling everything. This user shouldn't have to stop running their radio station They just need to use more reliable radio automation software They wouldn't have any of these crashing/stability issues if they switched to RadioDJ to

Sam Broadcaster Pro Crashes

Image
I recently thought I'd install & see if anything changed with the latest version of SAM Broadcaster Pro SADLY IT HADN'T I started SAM Broadcaster after I configured it connected it to Shoutcast pressed play and off it went or so I thought. I got called away to help a neighbour with something & I was only gone from the computer for 10/15 minutes IF that. When I came back my stream was silent NOTHING was playing just dear air. I looked on the computer & an error message said SAM Broadcaster had STOPPED WORKING you know, that really annoying error! I had it on a clean and fresh install of Windows 11 only Sam Broadcaster was installed After testing SAM Broadcaster Pro it froze displaying the usual critical error (Unexpected Exception Occurred) After 20 years those SAM Broadcaster problems should be a thing of the past Nothing has changed with SAM Broadcaster It's still prone to crashing without warning Why do people s

Why Do You Stick With Software If It Keeps Letting You Down? (SAM Broadcaster Pro)

Image
Q: WHY do people stick with Spacial Audio software if it lets them down time after time? Recently seen Tweets from a long time user frustrated at Spacial Audio not replying to their support requests. Gaddammit! Because the evil empire (@spacial) primarily communicate via email, the resolution to my issue is essentially circling in a e-filibuster! We lose again This isn't the first time I've seen this user get frustrated with Spacial Audio. I know from experience just how awful Spacial Audio support can be. I’ve had reliability issues as well as poor to non-existent customer service I’ve had to figure most of the issues encountered on my own When I was having issues with SAM Broadcaster back in 2010 I got next to NO SUPPORT I got called names like TURD because I'd complained about how UNSTABLE I thought SAM Broadcaster software was. Other customers have taken to social media

Sorry That You Are Having Trouble With The Application (Sam Broadcaster Pro)

Image
Saw a Blog post from Spacial Audio. Seems like they've finally acknowledged there are major flaws with SAM Broadcaster We are sorry that you are having trouble with the application and we want to help you resolve this problem as swiftly as possible In order to do achieve this, the more specific information you can provide the more likely it is we can solve the problem quickly The blog post goes onto give examples of common errors that SAM Broadcaster throws up every now and then. If you've used SAM Broadcaster for a long time you will no doubt have ran into a serious violation type error every now and then. Don't say you haven't because that would be a big fat hairy LIE! So why the sudden change of attitude by Spacial Audio? They've gone from years of burying their heads in the sand to suddenly wanting to fix problems within their software. The program still has the same glaring bugs it had way back in 200
