Budding InternetRadio DJ?

Q: Are you a Budding Internet Radio DJ?

Internetradiobox

Starting out doing Internetradio as a hobby can seem daunting at first but when you get used to streaming it can be a great hobby to have.

If you're a Budding Radio DJ and are looking to get started then may I suggest a few pieces of software to use that won't cost you a penny.

In order to start streaming on the internet you will need the following...

  1. Broadband connection with minimum of 2MB per second upload speed1
  2. Music collection with at least 2000 tracks, make sure you use properly ripped audio files at 320Kbps (CBR) mp3 or FLAC
  3. A decent computer with a decent processor and at least 2GB RAM. Plus an operating system LATER than Windows Vista.
  4. A decent radio automation program. We recommend RadioDJ FREE radio playout software for this.

1You may encounter issues if other members of your household are streaming TV/Movies at the same time.

How To Install RadioDJ

5) A decent encoding program. In order to stream to a Shoutcast or Icecast server you will need an encoding program.

We recommend Stand Alone Encoding software for this.

6) A Shoutcast or Icecast server. You can find some providers on the Internet who provide these for free if you search Google

I found it best to pay for a streaming server the free ones can sometimes cut out and buffer

7) A decent audio mixing board. You can pick these up on eBay/Amazon or DJ stores at reasonable prices.

8) A decent Microphone. A cheap microphone may not make you sound right so I'd recommend spending a fair bit on a microphone.

It's really not that difficult to learn how to run an internet radio station.

Important: IF you want to run your own radio station & want to be legit
You will need the appropriate licences for your country of origin

That is unless you want to run the gauntlet of being a Pirate radio station

If you get really stuck there's lots of information out there on the Internet.

Keep an eye out on Forums & Twitter for radio stations owners who are looking to hire someone.

Who knows you could well be the next big thing in Internet radio!!

Happy streaming and above anything else enjoy yourself!
