Why Does RadioDJ Rely On A MySQL Database?
The biggest fail with RadioDJ to me is the reliance upon a MySQL database
Q: So Why does RadioDJ rely on a MySQL database?
A: RadioDJ requires a MySQL Database to run some backend functions such as events and rotations
Having an MySQL database also makes programming on your website (PHP) really straight forward.
You can show what’s currently playing or recently played or even take listener requests from your website.
The fact RadioDJ relies on a database for some of it's functions is actually one of it's PLUS points.
Some radio automation programs run with a flat file text based system and don't appear to have any form of web integration.
I never hear anyone question why other radio playout software has more database optionsAnother PLUS with RadioDJ You can backup your database on one machine and restore it on another machine.
You can have all the same songs/rotation/events on different machines.
You cannot backup the database in some paid for radio automation software
Even if you manage to backup your database with other playout software you're NOT always able to save all your table data.
Not being able to save all your table data is a major flaw in other well known automation software.
SAM Broadcaster cannot backup/restore the event tableUsers complained that their events hadn't been saved from the SAMBC database
MySQL isn't scary once you get used to how the database works with RadioDJ.
I use MariaDB to run my copies of RadioDJ.
I take a daily backup of my databases it using the backup tool MariaDB rarely goes wrong.
The database structure in RadioDJ is really, really stable & reliable
Users of Radio DJ aren't having to constantly rebuild the database every week/month.
I still don't get what some peoples problem is with RadioDJUsing a MySQL database alongside radio playout automation software is EASY once you learn
Q: Can you use Radio DJ without MySQL/MariaDB?
A: Not possible my friend!
Can we please get past this MYTH that RadioDJ needing an MySQL database being a bad thing?
Another plus point for having a MySQL database with RadioDJ?
