Firebird Database Sam Broadcaster Pro

SAM Broadcaster Pro comes with Five different options of database to install (MySQL and MariaDB are practically the same thing)

Firebird - MariaDB - MySQL - PostgreSQL - MSSQL

Firebird appears to be the most unstable database of the options you're given.

SAM Broadcaster 2020.2 on Firebird has been crashing every 2-5 days

I regularly see users having stability issues using SAM Broadcaster Pro with the Firebird database.

I installed SAM Broadcaster with the help of a software engineer
We used the Firebird server

That worked well for a few days Then SAM wouldn't restart

SAM fails more and more now to the point where it crashes at least once/twice a Week

Its taking the fun out of my hobby

We often see users complaining that Firebird in SAM Broadcaster Pro has crashed on them and that they've lost all their data.

I tried installing Firebird for SAM Broadcaster Pro but it didn't work

Firebird only allows you to load a maximum of 50,000 songs so it's not great if you have a huge music collection.

Firebird appears to have issues when users only have around 30,000 tracks in their database.

Perhaps, 30,000 tracks are too many I've got SAM Broadcaster Pro and it freezes every time the song changes. I get an error message: "not responding" Should I change from Firebird to MariaDB or MySQL?

The MySQL database structure in SAM Broadcaster doesn't fare much better it crashes when you least expect it or want it too.

You have NO way of completely backing up your MySQL or Firebird databases from within SAM Broadcaster itself.

While there is a BACKUP feature in SAMBC that only backs up the program settings and NOT your Database.

Users trying to backup SAM often run into error messages like this.

You need to use 3rd party database editing software to backup your SAMBC MySQL database.

IF you attempt to backup the SAM MySQL database table data from 'Events' is split into two tables and it won't restore properly.

The RadioDJ database backup tool backs up your WHOLE RadioDJ .sql database.

The MySQL database in RadioDJ is far more stable.

RadioDJ has a better music structure than SAM. You can add as many categories & subcategories and genres as you require.

You can sort your music the way you want to catalogue it.

There are users of RadioDJ with 300,000+ tracks in their MySQL databases.

We never hear those users reporting issues with the database crashing.

You can find a tutorial on how to setup a MySQL Server for use with RadioDJ Here

How To Install RadioDJ

The database in RadioDJ is a lot more robust. It was 2014 when I last rebuilt my MariaDB-Radio DJ SQL database from scratch.

Q: Does Firebird conflict with MariaDB?
A: It shouldn't do as they run as separate services on separate ports.

Uninstall Firebird completely to be on the safe side.
